February at the Cedar Estate
Early February (1-15): Late Winter
February week 1-2 can still deliver snowfall — 35-45% probability, declining from the January peak but still significant. The specific opportunity: if a western disturbance arrives in early February, the post-snowfall cedar estate (days 1-2 after the event, roads cleared) is nearly as spectacular as January without the January demand. The cedar estate in early February snowfall: same snow-on-cedar-branches character, same sub-zero morning, but with the availability of a quieter month.
Late February (16-28): The Transition
Late February is the specific transition period: the snowfall probability drops to 20-30%, the temperature begins its slow rise (still cold — 0-10°C — but clearly warmer than January), and the first signs of spring begin in the forest floor. The cedar trunks are still in their winter character (the bare deciduous branches allowing fuller visibility through the forest), but the air is beginning to carry the first hint of spring.
March at the Cedar Estate
March at Bhurban: the first spring growth on the cedar estate floor, the bare deciduous branches beginning to show the first leaf buds, the temperature now in the 6-16°C range that makes outdoor activity comfortable without heavy winter clothing. The cedar estate in early spring is the quietest version of the forest at its most architecturally visible — before the full leaf cover of April-May reduces the visibility through the canopy.
March and the Birdlife
March is when the cedar estate bird calendar begins to accelerate — the winter residents are still present, the breeding season is approaching, and the first migratory species are beginning to arrive from their wintering grounds. The Koklass Pheasant's territorial calls become more frequent and more intense as March progresses into breeding season.
