Murree in December - Snowfall & Winter Stays

What is Murree and Bhurban like in December?

December marks the beginning of true winter in Murree and Bhurban. Temperatures range from 0°C at night to 12°C during the day, dropping sharply toward month-end. The first significant snowfall of the season typically arrives in late December — often between December 20-31. The cedar and pine forest turns visually stark and atmospheric as deciduous trees are now fully bare. All Himalaya Villas & Resorts villas are fully heated and operational. December bookings are divided between early-month (quiet, good value) and Christmas/New Year period (busy as snowfall is anticipated).

Murree and Bhurban in December — Early Winter Guide

December occupies a distinctive position in the Bhurban calendar. The month begins quietly — November's emptiness carries into the first two weeks — and ends in anticipation. The social media weather-watching that drives January snowfall bookings begins in late December; if the first significant snowfall of the season arrives before year-end, the final week of December sees a spike in availability requests that January's snowfall weekends would otherwise claim.

For guests who want Bhurban's winter character without January's competition for availability, early December is among the best-value windows in the year. For guests who specifically want to be present for the first snowfall of the season, late December is the moment to watch.

December Weather — Early vs Late Month

Period	Day Temp	Night Temp	Character	Snowfall Likelihood
Early December (1-15)	8-12°C	2-5°C	Clear winter days, cold nights	Low — possible at elevation (Nathia Gali)
Mid December (16-20)	5-10°C	0-3°C	Deepening winter; first frost common	Low to medium
Late December (21-31)	2-10°C	-2 to 2°C	Pre-snowfall tension; New Year period	Medium — first snowfall of season often arrives

Why Early December Works

Rates and availability at their most favourable before the Christmas/New Year premium kicks in

The fire pit in early December — cold enough (2-8°C evenings) to make the fire essential rather than optional

The forest in December has the clean, bare-branched character of early winter: cedar and pine dominant, the deciduous trees stark, long winter light on clear afternoons

Patriata Chairlift and all Murree attractions accessible without peak-season queues

For guests who want the winter experience without competition for snowfall dates, early December delivers all the atmospheric cold without the booking pressure

The Christmas and New Year Window

The last week of December attracts a specific booking profile: families who want to mark the holiday period in a mountain setting, and guests timing for the season's first snowfall. If Bhurban receives significant snow in the Dec 22-31 window — which occurs in some years — the New Year period becomes the most atmospheric time of the entire year. If it doesn't, the cold, clear winter days of late December are still excellent.

Booking lead time for late December: 3-4 weeks minimum. The Christmas/New Year window at Himalaya Villas books ahead consistently.
